Don't worry about Spikes piercing your tubes/tires. Choose their threadlength according to the stud-height of rubber available and you should be fine - especially if the spikes are not to long and protrude not that much out of the tire. Remember several examples where the spikes moved further into the rubber (it's not usual), but nobody lost air caused by that.
